Mark Your Calendars - COPAA Virtual Summit

 March 3-6, 2021

In-depth 2 Day Skill Building Virtual Sessions  February 25-26, 2020

Hello COPAAns and Colleagues!

After much consideration, including input from members, the conference committee, staff and the meetings industry, the COPAA Board has made the decision to hold a virtual event in 2021.  The estimated dates remain March 3th through 7th, 2021. The final schedule is to be determined.

While we are all sad we will not be together in person this coming year, COPAA is not alone in having to pivot to technology for the annual event. The safety of our members, staff and their families continues to be of utmost importance.

The venue at which we were to have held the in-person event, Hotel Irvine in California, remains closed and there are many uncertanties about what lies ahead. We do know that the current pandemic crisis caused by COVID-19 will have lasting effects in the hotel industry worldwide. In this next year, even as recovery continues, it is probable that some kind of travel restriction may continue or resurface. So much is still unknown we cannot responsibly plan for an in-person event; and, as you likely know, it takes most of the year to do conference planning!

Like most crises, there's always a silver lining.  We have before us an opportunity to reinvent our annual gathering for this year and move forward with bold ideas to connect virtually until we can again meet in-person (Boston is 2022, and hopefully Irvine in 2023). We are already at work exploring online meeting solutions and finding many positives that the advanced software platforms can offer.

Why attend COPAA's Virtual Summit in 2021?

"COPAA is not a conference for theorists to discuss what should be, but
for the warriors who will fight battles in the trenches and the generals
who will map strategy, knowing what it is and how to do it. Applied
techniques, tactics, strategy, war stories – it’s all there at COPAA."

~ Wrightslaw, THE SPECIAL ED ADVOCATE, VOL. II, NO. 2, January 8, 1999

General Session COPAA Conference

When you have a tough case against a school district and need information or advice where do you turn? If you’re like most, you come to the unparalleled peer-to-peer network COPAA.

You will receive absolute top notch education advice, support, and strategy. This event is typically approved for up to 22.25 CLE credit hours for attending all 4 days of training (see below).

COPAA members work in the trenches every day to assure that IDEA, Section 504, The ADA and other federal and state laws are implemented as intended. We have experienced, time and time again, the full synergistic force of effective IEP teams; where parents and students are equal members, the team works collaboratively, and the resulting individualized program gives the student a real shot at life enrichment as the result of receiving a meaningful, quality education.

The COPAA Virtual Summit is your opportunity to learn, face-to-face, effective strategies from the COPAA network. Learn information and approaches to support each student through the spirit and letter of the law to be as independent, self-sufficient, self-advocating as possib le; enforcing their civil right to equal opportunity.

This exciting event sells out because of sessions, events and networking opportunities that rejuvenate your spirit and hone your skills to assure that every child you represent has a chance to learn, to achieve and to contribute, to graduate ready to attend college or pursue a career, and to be a productive and contributing member of his or her community.
