Virginia High School Junior Helps Put Anti-Bullying Bill on the Governor’s Desk https://www.copaa.org/news/news.asp?id=349688 https://www.copaa.org/news/news.asp?id=349688 Brandon Farbstein, a high school Junior inspired a new law in Virginia. Born with a rare form of Dwarfism, he experienced bullying at school and said it got to the point where he “didn’t feel safe.” He has used his own experience to advocate for House Bill 1709, introduced by Virginia House Del. Eileen Filler-Corn (D-Fairfax County) which directs schools to notify parents within five days if their child is involved in a bullying incident. Governor McAuliffe also signed Senate Bill 1117 into law which requires school counselors to receive training in bullying and suicide prevention to renew their state licenses. It was introduced by Virginia state Sen. Jeremy McPike (D-Prince William County). Both bills were signed into law last week.
