This month, the Government Accountability Organization (GAO) released a report titled: Special Education: Varied State Criteria May Contribute to Differences in Percentages of Children Served. The GAO reported that differences in states' eligibility criteria and the difficulty of identifying and evaluating some children suspected of having disabilities may contribute to differences in the percentages of children receiving special education services across states. GAO was asked by Congress to examine how states implement Child Find and how the U.S. Department of Education monitors it. Read the GAO study https://www.gao.gov/mobile/products/GAO-19-348
