Last week, advocates for school choice celebrated and discussed the benefits of school choice including access to vouchers and public charter schools. As part of the debate, Secretary DeVos called on Congress to expand and permanently authorize the DC Opportunity Scholarship Fund. COPAA, consistent with the research and advocacy work the organization has conducted regarding students access to IDEA’s due process rights under vouchers submitted an editorial conveying that “the [choice] options is generally only available to parents with the time and finances to facilitate the process and offset the cost of tuition and fees; who can afford to pay for private therapy or related services; or, who are lucky enough to live where a state offers funding to meet full tuition and expenses for students with higher needs.”
