Over the past several weeks, COPAA offered a series of regional special education law trainings at no charge to encourage advocacy on behalf of children with disabilities in under-served regions in and surrounding Louisiana. The four regional trainings, attended by approximately 70 attorneys, clinicians, and parents, are a part of a larger mobilizing effort ahead of COPAA’s annual conference in New Orleans March 7-10 of 2019.  The parent training in Lafayette, LA was covered by several local news outlets, spreading awareness of COPAA’s resources to the community. With the intention of remaining accessible to families in the Louisiana area, COPAA is offering those who attended the parent trainings a free parent membership and discounted rate to COPAA’s annual conference. COPAA Board Members Matt Cohen, Michele Kule-Korgood, David Jefferson, Shenikwa Medlock, and Missy Alexander led the regional training effort.
