The U.S. Department of Education Inspector General (IG) has called for a review of the handling of civil rights complaints by the Office for Civil Rights (OCR). In an Annual Report released last week, the IG has indicated that one priority is to determine whether OCR has been appropriately dismissing discrimination complaints in accordance with federal policies and procedures. OIG reviews typically assess the efficiency, effectiveness and integrity of department operations and look for fraud, waste or abuse.
