NCD Releases IDEA Report Series

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, in response to the National Council on Disability (NCD) release of a series of papers focused on the funding and implementation of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), the Council of Parent Attorneys and Advocates (COPAA) executive director, Denise Marshall issued the following statement:


COPAA was pleased to be awarded a cooperative agreement with NCD in the Fall of 2016. With NCD’s leadership, COPAA, through our independent research team, conducted research through literature, data reviewfocus groups and forums across the United States. This important research captured essential stories and key perspectives of the childrenfamilies and stakeholders directly impacted by the IDEAThe IDEA series illuminates how federal, state and local decision makers can provide more resources to schools and teachers, help ensure children benefit from the law as intended and work together so that more children achieve and make educational gains alongside their peers. Marshall concluded, “Our nation’s special education law provides the cornerstone for educational opportunity and rights for over 6 million children with disabilities and their families and we look forward to working with key partners to help carry out the recommendations in the series so that every child can achieve their full potential.”
