On June 15, U.S. Representatives McKinley (R-WV), Reichert (R-WA), Katko (R-NY), Huffman (D-CA), Walz (D-MN) and Schrader (D-OR) introduced H.R. 2902, the IDEA Full Funding Act. This bipartisan legislation calls for the Federal government to pick up 40 percent of the extra cost of educating a student in special education, which is the share authorized under the Individuals with Disabilities in Education Act (IDEA). Currently, the federal government covers only 15.3 percent of the cost of special education programs. COPAA supports the bill and will help advocate for it in the coming months.
