Council of Parent Attorneys and Advocates
Protecting the Legal and Civil Rights of Students with Disabilities
This year COPAA offers Three Different Conference Scholarships:
CLOSED, deadline was 1/10/17Since 2003, COPAA has awarded Beth Goodman memorial scholarships to defray conference expenses for COPAA members who meet the financial requirements and who have made significant contributions to special-education advocacy, or who have a demonstrated interest and commitment to make future contributions to special education advocacy but could not otherwise afford to attend the conference. The scholarship honors the memory of Beth Goodman, a member of the COPAA Board until her death in 2002. Beth was an outstanding attorney who dedicated her life to fighting for the rights of students with disabilities in Washington D.C. This is the only scholarship that may include travel or lodging expenses in addition to the registration fee. Please log into your COPAA profile and click the link above or select member only> member resources > and Beth Goodman Scholarship. Deadline is 1/10/17
Registration Fee Discount (Financial Hardship) Scholarship
A limited number of qualified individuals whose family income is at or below the federal poverty level or have extenuating circumstances may apply for a conference registration fee discount. Attorneys, Advocates, Family members or Related Professionals with a demonstrated hardship are eligible to apply. A limited number of attendees who qualify will receive a discounted rate off the conference fee; first come, first served.
As part of the scholarship program we ask that recipients volunteer 2-3 hours of time working at the COPAA conference.
Interested applicants must send an e-mail to conference @ copaa.org by 1/10/17 prior to completing online registration and explain why they feel they meet eligibility.
10-12 scholarships of this nature will be provided each year. If additional revenue is obtained this number may increase. COPAA Executive Director, in consultation with the Executive Committee will set the number to be awarded each year. COPAA Staff Representative as designated by the Executive Director will manage the process and contact applicants to confirm eligibility and availability.
