COPAA Conference Committee is soliciting proposals for presentations at the 17th Annual Conference held in San Diego, CA on March 5-8th 2015

Attorneys who represent education agencies and current employees of education agencies are not eligible to attend the conference or submit proposals.

Content of Proposals

Proposals are sought for break-out-sessions to be held on Saturday, March 7th and Sunday, March 8th, 2015.

These sessions run one hour and 15 minutes (including questions) and are intended to address but not limited to:

- A review of legal and advocacy issues in special education

- Best educational practices

- Science related to the education of children with disabilities.

The conference review committee may, at its discretion, ask presenters to repeat an accepted session or present for a longer time frame.

Deadline for Proposals has been extended:

Proposals must be received on or before midnight Eastern Time on August 15th,

Audience:

Attendees will include attorneys, special education advocates, parents and related educational professionals who are not current employees of an education agency. Registrants' level of knowledge of the law and best practices relating to the education of children with disabilities will vary widely, from novice through intermediate to advanced. Accordingly, proposals should be developed, and clearly identified in the program the target audience. Proposals that are geared to a range of knowledge levels should be identified as such: novice/intermediate or intermediate/advance.

Approximately 350-400 registrants are expected to attend the conference.

Please complete the online submission and make sure you provide all the information requested in an attach a word document to include the following:

1. Title of Presentation

2. Presenters Contact Information: Organization, Title, Address, City, State, Zip, Phone number, E-mail

3. Brief Description of Session for Registration Brochure (approximately 40 words)

4. More Detailed Session Description for CLE approval (approx. 300 words)

5. Session Detail Outline

6. Intended audience: attorney, advocate, parent or mixed audience, novice/intermediate or intermediate/advanced.

7. Presenter's Biography (1-2 paragraphs for each to use in program materials, if selected)

8. Copy of lead presenter's current resume

Receipt of all proposals will be acknowledged via email.

Selection of Proposals and Development of Program

Selections of proposals will be made by COPAA's Conference Program Committee based on quality of written submission, topic, and only those that are complete and submitted by the August 16th deadline will be considered. Preliminary questions concerning proposals should be emailed to Conference@COPAA.org No single person has authority to assure acceptance of a proposal prior to the committee's review of the submission. Moreover, the Committee reserves the right to select among possible topics it has identified for inclusion in the final program. As a condition of acceptance, and depending upon the type of presentation, submitter may be asked to develop a longer or more detailed outline on or before a specified date.

Submission of Materials

All speakers agree to provide ALL hand out and other materials for their presentations to be included in the 2014 COPAA Conference Program and Compendium in the format requested, and by the deadline date (to be announced in acceptance letters sent by the end of September). Failure to provide materials within the deadline could result in cancellation of the presentation and, in any event, will be considered in reviewing proposals for future COPAA conferences.

Financial Arrangements

In an effort to keep the conference registration as accessible to as many people as possible, and because COPAA's resources are limited, no honoraria will be offered to presenters of break-out sessions. All presenters are requested to stay at the conference hotel and arrive the evening preceding their presentation. Presenters are invited to attend all conference proceedings and the conference registration fee for the main conference will be waived. The registration waiver is good for the main conference only and does not include Pre-conference Training sessions (Th & Fri). Registration to those events are available at additional cost. 

ONLY TWO COMPLEMENTARY REGISTRATIONS WILL BE ALLOWED PER SESSION, EVEN IF THEIR ARE MORE THAN TWO PRESENTERS.
 No other expenses will be paid, although several meals are provided to all conference participants. At the discretion of the Conference Committee, presenters who are asked to present at General Sessions or full-day pre-conference workshops may also receive complimentary hotel accommodations.
