COPAA submitted formal comments on the U.S. Department of Education’s final notice to make technical changes to the Civil Rights Data Collectionfor school year 2017-2018.

COPAA supported the proposed technical changes and emphasized how important the CRDC is to protect student rights by using the data to identify and address disparities and discrimination.

COPAA also reiterated a recommendation made earlier this year regarding non-public private schools to assure any school providing services to students with disabilities reports the same data as public schools, especially as it relates to disciplinary actions including the use of aversives such as seclusion and restraint.
