Memorial Scholarships
Memorial and Honor Scholarships
Many members of the COPAA community wish to honor family members, friends, and colleagues through special memorial and honor donations to our scholarship programs. We welcome these donations. As a nonprofit corporation, COPAA has been accorded 501(c)(3) status by the Internal Revenue Service and donations are tax-deductible to the maximum extent of the law.
COPAA is committed to providing high-quality training for attorneys, advocates, and parents so they are better able to provide disability advocacy in their communities and nationwide. COPAA will specify special memorial or honor scholarship funds in the name of individuals. Funds collected in that person’s name will be used to support our existing conference scholarship program, the Beth Goodman Scholarship program. The Beth Goodman Scholarship goes to members of the community who have made substantial contributions to advocacy on behalf of children with disabilities, but are unable to attend COPAA’s conference without financial assistance. The fund helps defer travel, hotel, and related expenses for these advocates.
COPAA will announce the special scholarship donation and the name of the person it honors on our webpage, to our members, and in our Conference program. COPAA will also provide the family/creator with regular donation updates. Donors wishing to honor a family member, friend, or colleague through a special memorial/honor scholarship should contact Executive Director Denise Marshall. Thank you for supporting the work of COPAA.
Other Memorial and Honor Donations
COPAA accepts other memorial and honor donations. Donations may be made through the website or by check. COPAA will acknowledge other memorial and honor contributions in our Conference program and on our website if desired.
Donors who wish to discuss a large memorial gift or project or a planned gift or bequest should contact COPAA’s Executive Director, Denise Marshall. Projects undertaken by COPAA must fit with COPAA’s strategic and financial plans and promote COPAA’s goals of ensuring appropriate educations for children with disabilities and protecting their educational and civil rights. Substantial financial projects must be reviewed and approved by COPAA’s Development Committee and Board of Directors, and are subject to their discretion.
