While IDEA (and its many predecessors) have always had a clear vision and wonderful tools for ensuring that students with disabilities received equal educational opportunities; too often the law is merely a glimmer of possibilities without the strong advocacy of students, parents and their advocates. The advocacy, training and support provided by COPAA and its members is a wonderful means of helping students and families turn that vision into reality.
~ Catherine Blakemore, Esq. COPAA Board Member, 1998-2001

COPAA is the only network of attorneys and advocates from across the nation with specific focus on the educational rights of students with disabilities.

Whether you primarily practice special education law, or practice special education law on a limited basis, COPAA membership provides access to knowledgeable and experienced practitioners.  Member-to-member sharing of strategy tips, briefs, and other legal resources to help protect the educational rights of students with disabilities is a priceless benefit.

Learn and share information about rights under The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, and other Federal laws that guarantee civil rights for students with disabilities and their families.

COPPA Membership gives attorneys access to a closed, moderated, attorney-only listserv to share ideas about this specialized practice area.  Members also access up-to-the-minute information on national trends and practical tools  that can help your career soar.

COPAA is your resource for Continuing Legal Education Credits.  COPAA is an approved provider in Illinois and Alaska.  Each year COPAA applies for credit for the Annual Conference through The Supreme Court of Ohio Commission on Continuing Legal Education.
